Small Pineapple Doily (1940s–50s): vintage crochet pattern

Materials

• Puritan Mercerized Crochet Cotton or Puritan Star Spangled Crochet Cotton (Article 40) — size not printed; choose a mercerized cotton crochet thread that matches the finished size
• Yardage: 2 balls White, Cream or Ecru (or 4 balls Silver Spangle) as printed — check the ball band for yardage
• Tapestry needle, rustproof pins and starch for blocking
• Hook: Start with a 1.65 mm (US 7) steel hook — the printed hook is a No. 7 steel — and change size to reach the printed diameter.

2. Rnd 22: Sl st into loop, ** ch 5, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, ch 1, sc in next loop, * ch 7, 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next large loop, repeat from * 5 times, ch 7, sc in next loop, repeat from ** all around ending last repeat with ch 3, tr in sl st.
3. Next 3 rnds: Ch 3, sc over tr, * ch 7, 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next large loop, repeat from * all around ending each round with ch 3, tr in tr.
4. Rnd 26: Ch 3, sc over tr, * ch 8, 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next large loop, repeat from * all around, ending with ch 4, tr in tr.
5. Rnd 27: * Ch 11, sc in next loop, repeat from * all around ending with ch 11, join in tr.
