- J. & P. Coats Bedspread Cotton (a firm mercerized cotton; the nearest common modern equivalent is size 10 crochet cotton)
- Yardage: Printed: about 100 yd (91 m) per 7.5-in motif, plus about 2 balls for fringe. Example (ours): 10 × 12 motifs = about 75 × 90 in (191 × 229 cm) and 120 motifs × 100 yd = about 12,000 yd (10,973 m). Ball size is not printed — check your label.
- Original hook: Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8.
- Tapestry needle for sewing motifs together.
- Make one motif first and check it against the printed motif size before buying all the thread.
- Hook: Start with 1.5 mm (US steel 8) and change size to match the gauge.

Center section (rows)
- Starting at center section, ch 15.
- Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 2 ch (these 4 dc make 1 block); ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch (sp); make another sp, end with 4 dc (block). Ch 5, turn.
- Row 2: Dc in last dc of block; make dc in next 2 ch, dc in dc, dc in next 2 ch and in dc. Ch 2, dc in top st of turning ch-3. Ch 5, turn.
- Row 3: Sp over sp and block over block. Ch 3, turn.
- Row 4: Dc in next 2 ch and in dc, 2 sps over next 2 blocks, block over next sp (center section completed). Hereafter work in rnds.
