You can put crochet in the washing machine when the yarn label allows machine washing. Use cold water, a gentle cycle and a mesh laundry bag to prevent stretching and snagging.
How do you hand wash crochet?
Hand wash crochet in cool water with gentle detergent, then remove water without wringing.
- Fill a basin with cool water and a small amount of wool wash or mild detergent.
- Submerge the item and press gently; do not rub or agitate.
- Soak for 15 minutes.
- Drain and rinse with cool water of the same temperature.
- Roll the item in a towel and press to remove excess water.
- Lay flat on a dry towel, shape to size and dry away from direct heat.

Why did my crochet stretch or shrink after washing?
Crochet stretches after washing when heavy wet fabric hangs or is wrung, and it shrinks or felts when wool meets hot water and agitation. Drying flat and washing cool prevent both problems.
